The English Language Arts instruction is comprised of 5 components : Reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as language. The main idea behind the ELA instruction is to enable as well as enhance the students comprehension of literary works, creativity and critical thinking skills.
In terms of Reading, ELA aids the students comprehension of text and the application of comprehension to the real world. The students are able to make fuller use of text, connection of ideas, as well as become sensitive to inconsistencies and poor reasoning in the text.
As far as Writing, students develop the ability to plan and publish writing as well as make reading-writing connection. Students will also be able to read and show understanding of texts in writing as well as the ability to research and show their comprehension of such a research in their writing.
Speaking and listening. Students are able to make formal and oral communication. They should also be able to incorporate listening skills and reproduce their comprehension of what was heard. Integrate information from media resources and other forms of texts and communicate what they learn. Students should be able to work together to produce story telling projects.
Lastly, Language. Students enhance their vocabulary using words and other vocabularies. Students will also be able to recognize the relationships between words and phrases.
