Philosophy Of Education

 As an aspiring Teacher, it is my sincere belief that there is always more that can be taught and learnt in any subject area therefore the possibilities are endless for both Teacher and student once they apply themselves. It is also my belief that hidden in each student is an individual longing for understanding and the ‘know how’ regarding any subject area and that it is up to the Teacher to apply proven teaching practices so as to bring such an individual to full potential.
The purpose of Education from my perspective is to bring understanding as well as working, practical knowledge of our world and how everything operates and functions around us to our students so they can become capable contributors of our society.  
  
I believe every member of society who actively contributes to the success and fulfillment of any economy is an individual whom many people (mainly Teachers) have invested much time and knowledge in. I am one such individual and so I believe it is a high calling and great opportunity to invest in the lives of students who will one day do the same in some way, shape or form.

As a Teacher, I believe my role will not just be confined to impart knowledge but to facilitate and create an environment where students can safely and securely experiment, investigate and research themselves, thereby learning how critical and valuable knowledge really is both to themselves and the world in which they reside.

Keeping in mind, the fact that many students come from different backgrounds with diverse learning needs, it is my responsibility to create an environment where each student will develop and realize their full potential. The fact is that each student learns or grasps information in different ways much like the fact that each is an individual and so the Teacher must apply proven Teaching practices that will facilitate each students learning needs.

The goals for my students are such that, each student will be able to grasp any new information that is introduced to them as well as apply the new information to our real world. Another goal is to empower my students to investigate, experiment and research on their own while drawing pertinent knowledge from such activities thereby enhancing their creative and critical thinking skills.

I intend to realize these goals by applying proven Teaching practices through lecture, hands on experiments as well lesson plans that stimulate the need for students to critique information, thereby initiating pertinent questions on their own. Also, by creating real to life experiments based on set curriculum, students will be able to apply learnt knowledge thereby reinforcing and preparing them for the real world.

My Teaching structure will be based on my goals for the students. These goals will dictate the desired objectives for that level of students, the different ways in which the information will be presented to them as well as the predetermined sequence in which the information will be taught. The way in which the sequence is determined is based on the best way in which the students will understand the subject in a step by step manner.

Reinforcement through curriculum based projects whether it be building or experiments, group work such as researching as well as group discussions will ensure the students mastery of subject areas thereby achieving set goals.
It is fact that the world we live in is a technology driven society and so my students will be exposed to such programs and software through which they can complete projects and other group work, thereby familiarizing themselves with new and improving technology while learning. If they are to survive and thrive in such a technology driven world, they must learn to use such technical means at an early age. With the integrating of technology students will be able to not only complete required tasks in a timely manner but also with great efficiency.
The means by which students should be tested for comprehension should be through presentation of information learnt or knowledge acquired. This knowledge can be presented through tests, projects whether individually or group based. The goal of every Educator is to ensure their pupils demonstrate competency in the subject area taught.

As an aspiring Teacher in a time when common core state standards are being implemented it is clear that my goal is to learn and continue to acquire relevant knowledge so as to become an efficient educator in the field. Such improvements are done through attending workshops, keeping up to date with the educational changes as well as personal researching and application.
